Ascents of the Lötschental Breithorn (3,785 m above sea level) are mostly made from the south via the Baltschiederklause Hut, located in the Baltschiedertal valley (2,783 m above sea level) at the foot of the Jägihorn (3,406 m above sea level), or from the north from Blatten (highest municipality in the Lötschental). Another route runs via the Oberaletsch Hut in the east. The creek Baltschiederbach, which joins the Rotten after Visp near Baltschieder, originates at the foot of the Baltschieder Glacier.
