The Lötschberg line is a traffic connection from Central Switzerland to the canton of Valais and in part also to Italy. RegioExpress trains from Bern or Spiez to Brig and back cross the Lötschberg mountain route every hour.

The Vispa, a Valais river, originates in Stalden from the convergence of the rivers Saaser Vispa from the Saastal valley and the Matter Vispa from Zermatt. It joins the Rhone at Visp after 38 km.
