Baregg – Birrhard
Route: Baregg – Baden-West – Birrfeld
The Baregg Tunnel is a 1.1-km-long tunnel below the Baregg, a hill of the Heitersberg mountain range in the canton of Aargau. It is situated south of Baden between Dättwil and Neuenhof and is part of the A1, the most-frequented highway in Switzerland. The average daily traffic is particularly high there, because only a few kilometers to the west, the A1 from Bern merges with the A3 from Basel.
Birrhard (390 m above sea level) is a municipality in the Brugg district of the canton of Aargau. It is situated about five kilometers southeast of the capital of the district. The elongated ribbon-built village is situated at the eastern edge of the Birrfeld area. Birrhard consists of the districts of Oberdorf, Unterdorf and Inlauf. The Reuss river (340 m above sea level) is the lowest point of the municipality and constitutes the eastern municipal boundary, where it runs through an about 100-m-wide gorge.
Neighboring municipalities are Mülligen in the north, Birmenstorf in the east, Wohlenschwil and Mägenwil in the south, Brunegg in the southeast as well as Birr and Lupfig in the west.
