Route: Würenlos – Baregg

The Würenlos highway rest stop, which is open 365 days a year, is often called «Fressbalken» (munch beam) because of its architecture. The Baregg Tunnel is a 1.1-km-long tunnel below the Baregg, a hill of the Heitersberg mountain range in the canton of Aargau. It is situated south of Baden between Dättwil and Neuenhof and is part of the A1, the most-frequented highway in Switzerland.

The average daily traffic is particularly high there, because only a few kilometers to the west, the A1 from Bern merges with the A3 from Basel. About 50 to 80 meters above and somewhat north of the tunnel lies the Teufelskeller, a prehistoric landslide area with striking buttes.
