Route: Chailly – La Blécherette – Romanel-sur-Lausanne
Lausanne (370 – 870 m above sea level) is Switzerland's fourth-largest city and is located on the shores of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), surrounded by vineyards. This city, the capital of the canton of Vaud, is where the inbound highways from Genève (English: Geneva), Yverdon, and Vevey converge.
The small airport Lausanne-Blécherette sits on a plateau above the city, at 600 m above sea level. The Romandy base of the Swiss Air-Rescue (REGA) is also located on these grounds. Only since the turn of the millennium does the airport have a tarmac runway. Facing away from the lake, a view of the vast and fertile Gros de Vaud high plain unfolds.
