Route: Les Délices – Ballens – Bière
The Vaud village of Bière (698 m above sea level) lies north of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva) in the Gros de Vaud. Due to its fertile ground, the high plain is also called «Granary of the Vaud». Due to a large military training area of the Swiss Army, the Vaud village is known nationwide.
Bière is the point of origin of the BAM (Bière-Apples-Morges) railway line. This railway line connects Bière at the southern foot of the Jura with Morges (374 m above sea level) on Lake Geneva. More than anything, the military barracks built in 1873 were the decisive incentive to set up the line.
