Route: Bürglen – Altdorf (Dätwyler)
Altdorf is the capital of the canton of Uri. Its town center is located at an altitude of 458 m above sea level, slightly north of the outlet of the river Reuss into Lake Uri. The municipality consists of the village itself and the scattered hamlet of Eggbergen (1,410 - 1,678 m above sea level) at the western slope of Höch-Egg (1,785 m above sea level). The Reuss river that springs in the Saint-Gotthard Massif forms the western border of the municipality. Popular sights are the Tell theater, Tell memorial, and the Capuchin monastery of Allerheiligen. In 2007, Altdorf was awarded the Wakker Prize by the Swiss Heritage Society.
